9/2/10 - The main event in August was our niece's wedding. Loree & Eric got married on August 21st in Washingtonville, NY (near Woodbury). We flew in for the festivities beginning on Friday night so we could meet the groom's side of the family, and stayed through Sunday to do the brunch thing with the newly-joined families.
On the day of her wedding, Loree & her mom (Bunny) did hair and make-up in the morning, and that's when Candy started taking pictures. She loves to do candid shots that capture the feelings of the moment. The weather held & gave Loree her outdoor ceremony, which was simply beautiful. During the reception we got to visit with Candy's extended family, some of whom we hadn't seen for quite a few years! Lots of fun was had by all, eating & dancing the night away. Loree's dad (Artie) reduced us all to tears with his emotional toast to the newlyweds & his special dance with his daughter (to "I Loved Her First").
From NY, Candy & I drove up to Provincetown on Cape Cod for the remainder of the week. We used to go every year for many, many years, so it was nice to have the chance to go while we were on the East Coast. Walking up & down Commercial Street, & dancing the late afternoons/early evenings away at Tea Dance are things we enjoy tremendously! Unfortunately the first 3 days were rainy, cold & windy, dampening our vacation spirits a bit. But once the weather cleared we visited with our friends, Brian & Ray. They have always been so very excited about our early retirements, providing insight into their experiences & lots of encouragement along the way. Brian & I go way back, having worked together since the 90’s, in his role as a pre-eminent diversity consultant & mine as the leader of Chubb’s gay, lesbian, bisexual & transgender employee group, then as their chief diversity officer. Ray was still recovering from some pretty serious back surgery, so we visited with him on land before going out on their boat with Brian to tour Ptown Harbor & a bit of Cape Cod Bay. We spent the afternoon visiting & sightseeing on the water, closing out our vacation on a high note!
