A NYC Surprise
08/2011 - In August we seized the opportunity to get married in New York City! Same-sex marriage was legally recognized in New York on July 24, 2011 & did not have a residency restriction. City Hall was packed with same-sex and opposite-sex couples seeking licenses and officials for their marriages. There were people in gowns & tuxes, as well as jeans & shorts. Some couples had their entire families with them while others came on their own. Everyone was jubilant & supportive, and they cheered for each other at each step along the way. Very special indeed!
While in NYC we visited the Empire State Building’s open-air 86th floor observation deck at night. The deck wraps around the building’s spire, providing 360-degree views of New York and beyond. From up there got one-of-a-kind views of Central Park, the Hudson River and East River, the Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square, and much more.
